The Minnesota State Fair may not bring Sean Hannity and the national news likes that the Iowa State Fair does, but it sure brings a lot of media coverage. Nearly if not all radio and TV stations in the Minneapolis-St. Paul market have a booth at the Fair and most of them broadcast LIVE from their respective booths. One of the local stations, FOX Sports North, did a special "Be a Sports Anchor" promotion where you would read a teleprompter in front of a camera. My brother and I jumped at the opportunity and here is what it looked like. Zach Halverson shares his thoughts on school and how he only has 1 summer vacation left. This is not threatening at all.,, This liberal "One Nation" rally organized by over 400 organizations from SEIU to the Communist Party of America brought liberals to Washington D.C. to tell the country that they are mad and let's face it, counter Glenn Beck's Restoring Honor Rally held back on August 28th. I have no problem with them doing this, they have an opinion just like Glenn Beck and his followers and they have a right to walk on Washington. Just like Ed Schultz has a right to say a month before the event that he will easily out-draw the 300,000 people that NBC News estimated who came to the rally l most all of the speeches made me chuckle during this One Nation event, but one stood out and made me literally laugh out loud. Joe Madison, a radio host, came on and told the crowd that a satellite images shown that there are more people there than at the Glenn Beck rally. Click here for the video. So what do these satellite images look like? Let's take a look and you can be the judge! One Nation Rally Restoring Honor Rally This story would have been EVERYWHERE if it was the other way around. "Crazy red-neck white cracker racist republican lies about crowd size!" All I can say is Ed and Jon, wake the fudge up and realize the majority isn't with you, Glenn Beck, or any person, it's with America and with trillions in dollars of debt that MY GENERATION will have to deal with, I personally thank God, literally. My parents had to work so my Aunt had to bring me. We get to the studio building and I get in the elevator and realize that Justin Bieber probably rode this elevator. I feel really special. We get off the elevator and the Clear Channel(KDWB) desk is just to the right of us, I am extremely nervous at this point and when I tell my Aunt that I just want to wait for a few moments, another man who I believe was, but I can't confirm, the KDWB station director asks me, "Who are you looking for?". I tell him Steve-O and he replies, "Steve-O? That criminal? Come follow me.". I follow him up to the desk to the receptionist. After waiting in the waiting room for a half hour(which was great because it calmed my nerves), Intern Tom brought me to the elevator and brought me up to floor 5, where the studio was. I got there and I was instructed to stand in the production room, which is right next to the studio, and watch the show through the window. It was pretty cool to watch Dave Ryan and the guys do the show, rather than just listen in the car. In the production room with my aunt and I was Intern John, probably the coolest intern on the planet. Thinking about it now, I wish I had talked to him more about college and radio.
Eventually they went on a commercial break and that was when Steve-O came out of the studio and met me. He is one of the most positive and funniest guys I have ever met. He brought me into the studio where I met Crisco, Rena Sarigianopoulos(An anchor from KARE 11, she was filling in for Lena Svenson, who was out with the "flu"), and of course Dave Ryan. Shaking Dave's hand and talking to him was pretty dang cool, but it was when he turned around and went to my website that put the icing on the cake. Of course as everyone does, he spelt my name initially zachhalvorson.com, which made me think of getting a radio name(Dave's "real" last name is "Fleugelbeinder" which is obviously hard to spell so he changed it to "Ryan" on the show), but it is kind of too late for that. But I do like the name Halverson, it gives me a possible future on-air name "Halvy". After the show Steve-O gave me the full tour of the studios. For a radio nerd like me, that was awesome I made plenty of mistakes Tuesday, one of them being too nervous, one of them being a little too mature around them. I am usually light and non serious around teens my own age, and I do have a personality. But when I get with adults, I am often too quiet and not as "out-going" as I usually am. But I learned from those mistakes and if I ever meet them again, I should be more out going. I wanted to end with saying thanks to my parents for being so supportive in my radio stuff, my aunt for getting up at 6 in the morning to bring me down to KDWB since my parents had to work, my co-host Rex Matthews for helping to make the show like it is today, Dave Ryan for replying to an email I sent him in June about what I should do for college and actually complementing my website, Lena Svenson for "calling in sick" on the one day I come that week, Crisco for saying hi to me after I said hi to him in the studios, Intern John for the awkward time in the production room where I was constantly trying to decide whether or not to say something to him or not, and most of all, Steve-O. He invited me to the studios and was amazing. I will be lucky if I am working in radio with a guy with half as talent and amazingness as Steve-O. Well it is the day after the challenge, and after a lot of thinking, it was a major success. More people visited ZachHalverson.com yesterday than ever before, more people were aware of ZHRadio, and although Justin didn't eat all 100 McNuggets, he did attempt something that had never been done before at the McDonald's we went to. The crowd was fantastic and made the 75 minutes or so while he was eating a little more entertaining. Favorite part of the day was watching Justin order 100 McNuggets and the reaction of the manager. I got a video of that and it will be posted soon. To Justin, great job dude! Ironically, I am at that same McDonald's now while writing this eating lunch. Haha.
